Congressman Sanford Bishop announces infrastructure improvements in SWGA

June 16, 2022
On Thursday afternoon, Congressman Sanford Bishop along with FRA Administrator Amit Bose announced recent funding granted to the Cordele Inland Port Corridor.
Bishop said the corridor is vital when it comes to moving goods to and from South, GA and to the Port of Savannah.
Two Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements, also known as CRISI, totaled to 9.2 million dollars to improve railways and bridges that are apart of the Cordele Corridor.
People usually think of highways when discussing infrastructure, but Bishop explained how Thursday's announcement showed that its about way than that.
Cordele was chosen as one of the 46 projects around 33 states to modernize rail infrastructure.
The project in Cordele will replace 18 miles of rail to improve efficiency along 51 miles of the Heart of Georgia Railroad lines.
Those lines connect the Cordele Inland Port Corridor.
Receiving those funds are part of ensuring that transportation dollars go to all parts of the country, specifically rural areas as Bishop said the Cordele Corridor is essential to fueling the economy.
Bishop explained that the funds will make the corridor safer, more efficient, and more economical.
