Congressman Bishop visits the House of Mercy

An organization that helps the needy in Columbus is on the receiving end today.

Congressman Sanford Bishop along with members of the Annual Columbus Black History Observance Committee presented Elder Bobby Harris and The House of Mercy with a $20,000 check today.

The money mainly comes from community donations. Congressman Bishop says, "I salute them for the work they've done over the years, and I’m just happy that the community has opened up its heart to the house of mercy, and assisting in the way we are able to do each year.”

Congressman Bishop adds that over the years the Annual Columbus Black History Observance Committee has contributed upwards of $100,000 dollars and wishes they could give even more.
