NeighborWorks Columbus, along with community volunteers, will be working this week on 14 properties in East Wynnton Park on the second block of Baldwin Street.
"We are not building new houses here," said Michael Eddings, the chairman of NeighborWorks Columbus. "We are touching up some we've already built. We want to make sure they stay vibrant."
The workers will be painting, making minor repairs, cleaning yards and planting flowers.
The activities are part of National NeighborWorks Week.
Columbus Mayor Jim Wetherington was on hand for the work kickoff as was Georgia Congressman Sanford Bishop.
"I'm proud to have been part of this program," Bishop said, referring to both financial and moral support.
"Over the last 10 years it's been great to watch this community take on a new face. It's such a struggle to get house ownership. I love seeing the look of joy on the faces of these new homeowners."
