WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) voted to support H.Con.Res. 38 to uphold Article I war powers granted to Congress by the U.S. Constitution. This was in response to President Trump’s ongoing U.S. military strikes against Iran. The resolution failed by a vote of 212-219. After the vote, Congressman Bishop issued the following statement:
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) was unable to support a full-year, Fiscal Year 2026 funding bill for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which includes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). Today’s bill offered no changes to address concerns that a majority of Americans have expressed regarding ICE’s aggressive actions which have hurt, and even killed, American citizens and law-abiding immigrant families.
WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) voted to support a combined funding bill which will provide full-year funding for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 to the U.S. Departments of Labor, Education, and other departments and agencies that support affordable housing and health care and advance medical research; workforce training as well as entrepreneurs and small business owners; and America’s military families, national defense, diplomacy, and election security. The bill also froze funding for the U.S.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, supported the passage of H.R. 7148, a bipartisan bill which provides Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 funding for several federal departments, agencies and programs.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) opposed the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act. The Trump Administration claimed that its deportation policy would focus on violent felons who are in the United States illegally. However, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has aggressively swept up American citizens and law-abiding immigrant families.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) was presented with the Association of the United States Army’s (AUSA) 2025 Legislator of the Year Award.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) voted for two War Powers resolutions that were introduced to halt the ongoing use of military force by the Trump Administration in the Caribbean without Congressional authorization. To date, President Trump has ordered airstrikes on at least 23 vessels, killing at least 86 civilians. He also threatened military action against Venezuela.
WASHINGTON – Today, the Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26). The bill received bipartisan support and was approved by a vote of 312-112. The bill now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), a senior member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, opposed the passage of H.R. 5371, a partial, temporary funding bill. During debate on the bill, Congressman Bishop noted the bill left behind millions of Americans facing the imminent, drastic increase in their health insurance premium costs as well as the ongoing attacks by the administration against nutrition programs that benefit farmers and families.
