CONGRESSMAN BISHOP SUPPORTS LEGISLATION TO AVERT NATIONAL RAIL SHUTDOWN

November 30, 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported legislation to avert a national railroad shutdown and address outstanding concerns related to rail employee paid sick leave. The House action would implement a tentative agreement negotiated between nationwide railroad companies and labor unions under the guidance and expertise of the Biden Administration, which will prevent a rail industry shutdown.
"From north to south and east to west, our great, vast nation produces food, medicine, textiles, electronics, and other important commodities and products that Americans need and use every day. Our country's railroads are vital arteries that connect people and businesses with all these goods," said Congressman Bishop. "In the middle of the holiday season and as we head into winter, the American people must have the confidence that they can count on our railroads. On the same token, we must ensure our workers keeping the trains running receive the benefits and other compensation they rightfully deserve. By advancing this legislation, Congress has put aside partisan differences to deliver a win for all Americans."
