WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) successfully directed $500,000 to the Urban League of Greater Columbus for the revitalization and beautification of its historic headquarters. The project will preserve the architectural and cultural character of the building as well as ensure the safety of the facilities so that the organization can better assist the public. The funds are part of the Fiscal Year 2022 Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which was approved on Friday by the House Appropriations Committee and now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration.
“This funding will make sure that the Urban League of Greater Columbus will have improved facilities to provide important services to our area,” said Congressman Bishop. “As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever, the community needs the Urban League which assists with employment training, coaching, placement, youth programs, housing counseling and assistance, and so much more.”
“This appropriation, thanks to Congressman Bishop, will be a game changer for the Columbus and Muscogee County region. The impact of this project will be transformational as we strive to empower our communities and change lives,” said Tracey R. Mosley, Urban League of Greater Columbus Interim President & CEO.
