Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, released the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 3401, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act:

“The current treatment of migrant children and families at our border is unacceptable and is inconsistent with our nation’s values. As I’ve said before, the Christian thing to do is to treat these children and families as our own. The deaths and suffering at the border are truly heartbreaking and we had to act now to prevent more. While the bill does not satisfy everyone, I’m relieved we were able to come to a bipartisan consensus that is more reflective of American values.”
