CHAIRMAN BISHOP CONDEMNS CONTINUED HOUSE GOP DELAY OF EXPANDED DISASTER APPROPRIATIONS BILL
May 30, 2019
ALBANY, GA – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies issued the following statement after the third time a House GOP member objected to unanimous consent to pass the $19.1 billion disaster aid bill, keeping the bill from going directly to the President’s desk:
“Once again, a single GOP member blocked disaster relief from passing the House by unanimous consent. I am enraged that political games continue to delay our communities’ recovery from catastrophic destruction.
“There is no excuse for repeatedly blocking a widely supported bipartisan, bicameral bill that provides vital aid for victims of natural disasters!
“The full House must pass the bill as soon as we reconvene on June 3rd.”
