Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), Co-Chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus (CMFC), and fellow Co-Chair Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) announced the annual Congressional Military Family Caucus Summit will be held at the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center near Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at 8:30 AM.

“Since its inception in 2009, the Congressional Military Family Caucus has worked steadily to bridge the gap between military families and elected officials in Congress and the Executive Branch by addressing the pressing issues that impact the very families that support our national defense. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Military Family Caucus and Vice-Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, I strongly believe that it is our responsibility to be attentive, engaging, and receptive to the needs of our military families, and the Congressional Military Family Caucus Summit serves as an effective medium to ensure that the voices of our military families are heard,” said Congressman Bishop.

“When someone joins the military, it’s not just a job—it’s a family commitment to our country. That’s why every year, Congressman Sanford Bishop and I host this summit to put a microphone in front of our military families to highlight the unique challenges they face and then go to work on their behalf. I’m excited about this year's summit and encourage military families to join us in discussing these issues and finding solutions.” said Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers.

The Congressional Military Family Summit will bring together military families with Members of Congress and their staffs, officials from the Department of Defense, and personnel from numerous military family support organizations to discuss critical issues impacting America’s service members and their families. The summit will also include discussions exploring the challenges service members and military families face surrounding spousal employment and education surrounding grades K-12 and children with special needs.

The CMFC is a bipartisan congressional caucus that educates elected officials, congressional staffers, senior military leaders, and the public on a wide range of unique issues that affect military families.
