2nd Amendment Rights

I am a strong proponent of Second Amendment rights under the United States Constitution.  I believe that law-abiding adults should be free to exercise their right to purchase, own, and carry firearms for the protection of their homes and families.  I received an A+ from the National Rifle Association for the 110th Congress (2007-2008) and the 111th Congress (2009-2010) as well as an A rating during the 112th Congress (2011-2012) and 113th Congress (2013-2014).

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 by a vote of 240 to 190.

“I support the Constitution of the United States in its entirety, including the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. That right, however, is appropriately subject to reasonable measures including reasonable background checks to limit access by those whose mental health or criminal history demonstrates a lack of requisite responsibility.
