Congressman Bishop delivers remarks at subcommittee markup of FY24 Ag, Rural Development, & FDA funding bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies – and all subcommittee Democrats – opposed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Agriculture appropriations bill offered by the Majority. The bill passed on a party-line vote and now moves to the full House Appropriations Committee for consideration.

The family is the cornerstone of American life. Throughout his career in Congress, Congressman Bishop has worked tirelessly to ensure that families remain stable and strong now and into the future. He has supported policies including expanding parental leave and the child tax credit; championing affordable child care; promoting telework and flexible working arrangements; providing increased resources for health care, education, and job training; and advocating for the special challenges faced by military families.

Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-05), and Congressman Andy Kim (D-NJ-03) introduced a bipartisan resolution to designate April as the Month of the Military Child. Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and John Boozman (R-AR) introduced the resolution in the U.S. Senate.
Month of the Military Child is observed each April to honor and celebrate military children and youth for their service, commitment, and sacrifice in support of the Department of Defense's mission.

Bishop Jr. (GA-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is awarding four grants totaling $21,102,507 to Enrichment Services Program, Inc. in Columbus, Georgia, for its Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The Head Start program supports early learning and development, health, and well-being for low-income families.
